I arrived home late last night from my dad’s side family reunion in Kentucky. As usual, I had a wonderful time and absorbed lots of new story ideas from the memory-filled conversations. I am blessed to be a part of the Marler clan! Here’s a picture of my dad and his siblings:

On the blog, Novel Spaces, Dayton Ward posts a thought-provoking article on “Selling Yourself.” I’ll admit, I first began reading it in the hopes he’d have a list of suggestions, as I love lists. However, the article was more about his challenges, which are similar to mine. But, many of his comments include excellent suggestions and they, too, are worth a read.

Here’s my tiny list:

1. I try to look at it not as selling myself, but getting to know other people in the industry. Even if I don’t end up “selling” myself or my book, there’s a lot I can learn from others.
2. I accept my fear, understand others are probably as afraid as I am, and push past it. I remember the saying, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”

YOU’LL DEFINITELY WANT TO READ THIS! Roni Loren posts an excellent (though frightening) article, “Bloggers Beware: You CAN Get Sued for Using Pics on Your Blog.” This article has changed the way I’ll use photos from the Internet in the future, and has even motivated me to begin removing some photos from my own blog. Thanks for the warning, Roni! (Did you notice I changed my “mashup” photo?)

On her blog, 30 Day Books, Laura Pepper Wu posts a helpful article, “Does This Bio Make Me Look Fat?” I love the title and, the post has a list! After reading Laura’s post, complete with great examples, I think I need to re-do a few of my bios. How about you?
