“I hid a note in there.”

She blushed. “What’d it say?”

“Not telling. You’ll have to find it.”

“I’m not sticking my hand in there,” she said, arms crossed.

He snickered. “That’s ‘cause you’re chicken.”

“Am not!” Her heart beat so hard she was sure he’d hear. She’d have to prove him wrong. Lifting a bamboo shoot, she peeked inside.

A huge cockroach skittered out!

She dropped it and ran away screaming.

Thirty-seven years later, he said, “That note’s still there. Don’t you want to know what it said?”

She kissed him. “I believe I know. I love you, too.”

What a lovely story. As Fatima says, it shows how trust developed between them over the years – and it does so very gracefully.

Lovely. You have reminded me that once I hid a word in a magic wand. Now I must just remember where I hid that wand.

I think sweet is the word of the day. I like that instead of marring a tree, a hidden note can say so much.

I won’t use sweet – coz it’s been done to death 😉 But I shall use, wonderful. A love story for sure. Though, I think I would have gotten him to retrieve said note, which must be compost by now!

  14. Sometimes I think you just have to trust.. and also show a little bit of courage facing spiders and bugs.

  16. Love the dialogue at the beginning. You really get that gawky, shy teen talk, alongside the adult love at the end. Well done.
