He’s doing it again—digging for the diamond ring that plopped out of his hand the night he proposed in the middle of a cornfield.
“Honey, just give up.” I hand him a glass of lemonade.
Two hours later, he runs into the kitchen, smiling huge through sweat and tears.
My heart skips a beat. “You find it?”
“Nope. But I realized something.”
“Forty years ago, that ring became a seed that grew into something more precious than any diamond could ever be. Us. I think I best leave it be.”
His kiss is sweet and salty.
This story is inspired by the marriage of Connie and Russell Gayer. They are funny, loving, dedicated, committed and loyal, even after decades together. Their marriage is truly a treasure and an inspiration in more ways than one!
Thank you too, to our Friday Fictioneers leader, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. As I’ve said to you many times before, you, too, are an inspiration!
