Month of Thanks Giving: Day 5 (Thinking)

janstaring flip (2)

I love quotes that make me think. Much of my writing is inspired by the thinking that was prompted by a quote.

Here’s one I read this morning:

The most difficult times for many of us are the ones we give ourselves.   ~~Pema Chödrön

Often, when I read or hear a quote I like, I type it into Notes on my iPhone. Here are a few I re-read this morning (and Googled images!):

If you do not know the past how can you possibly engage in the present? ~~Diane Rhem

I remembered that the real world was wide, and that a varied field of hopes and fears, of sensations and excitements, awaited those who had courage to go forth into its expanse…
~~Charlotte Brontë, from Jane Eyre

My dear friend, Linda Apple, shares a quote a day on Facebook. You can follow her HERE. You can also find lots and lots of quotes at ThinkExist.com.

Today, I’m grateful for people who think and make me think.

Do you have a favorite quote I might add to my list?

  1. Linda Apple says:

Thank you Jan! I love good words that challenge me too! I’ve always loved the following quote and I have to remind myself of it often: Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. ~Judy Garland

  2. Mustang.Koji says:

Love the thankfulness here, Jan. My true to life favorite quote is, “Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth.” Lou Gehrig.

  3. Steve says:

From an essay by Maryilynn Robinson about Grace:

    My ending is despair
Unless I be relieved by prayer
Which pierced so that it assaults
Mercy itself and frees all faults.

    Prospero in The Tempest.
