This week’s photo prompt by Madison Woods came at a perfect time, as I’m currently working on a story for a Bigfoot anthology. Following is an excerpt from my story titled, “Mo’s Shadow.” In this excerpt, she has just seen the shadow of something moving in the woods. She hopes it’s her brother, Shiloh, playing tricks on her again. But, maybe not . . .

Mo’s Shadow
“Shiloh! Is that you out there? I know it’s you, and you best come out right now.”
Silence.
“It’s gonna be dark soon,” Mo taunted. “I’m gonna head back to the house and you’re gonna be out here all by yourself.”
Silence.
“Mama’s gonna tan your hide if you’re not in by dark.”
Silence.
She tried hard to convince herself it was wind that had rustled the leaves just behind her. But no. It was a new sound. Someone laughing. Something about laughter in the dark gave her the heebie-jeebies.
She ran home, darned sure that giggle hadn’t come from Shiloh.

I see now why they had all those commercials about messing with Bigfoot. If those critters are going to dish it out, they need to learn how to take it. I look forward to hearing the ending of the longer version 🙂
