My New Home

Well, THE MOVE was so scary that I thought about it for months before taking the plunge. I was so scared of  THE MOVE that I convinced myself it wasn’t possible. Soon, however, I began to see blog posts (such as Rachelle Gardner’s post, “Five Most Common Author-Website Mistakes”) that recommended WordPress over Blogger for better SEO (Search Engine Optimization.)

I decided I could no longer ignore the truth.

My next step was to research how to do it. Once I found a couple of websites/blogs that gave instructions step-by-step, it still took me a month to work up the courage. I was petrified of messing up my blog.

Today I bit the bullet. Here’s the website I used, which provided easy-to-understand instructions:  Do It With WordPress:  Moving From Blogger to WordPress–Your Guide.

It was easier than I expected, and though I still have some tweaking to do, I’m pretty happy with the results.

What do you think? Are you on Blogger or WordPress? Any thoughts about changing?

Congratulations on facing down the move! I’m not going to quote the usual balderdash about the actual activity being less fearsome than the anticipation, because sometimes it’s worse. Especially where computers are concerned.

  2. Looks great, Jan! I’m now following. I prefer WordPress to Blogger. My main objection to Blogger is that it’s so very difficult to leave comments on it. I hope your new blog has a HUGE following!

Thank you, Claire. As you might have seen, I’m still playing with it. Can’t seem to get it “just right.” I guess it’s kind of like editing my manuscript. At some point, I need to let it go!

My friend, Jan Morrill, has moved her blog from Blogger to WordPress. Check it out. It’s a beauty!!

I’m debating this right now – you lost followers; whet about stats? Did you own your blog name at blogger? Was it able to transfer? I’ll eventually work up the courage…

Hi MinivanMomma. I have lost followers in the short term, but I hope to keep “guiding” my followers to my new blog. I haven’t really had the blog long enough to check out my stats. I decided to go with a different name for my blog — just my name, instead of “Thoughts Over Coffee.” But, if I’d wanted to use my old name, I could have. Hope that helps!

  5. Good for you, Jan. I swear you are fearless with this computer stuff.

Way to go! I love the look of the new page – and I know you will be enamored with all the cool wordpress features once you start playing with it!

Thank you, Karen. I’ve messed with it and messed with it, and now I think I need to let it settle a bit. And yes, I’m excited to play with all the new features! 🙂

Jan, I’m with wordpress, but I don’t play with it much. Techno stuff frustrates me, give me a quilt pattern to figure out any day over techno stuff. I started on blogger way back when, before I knew it could be used to help my writing, in fact, before I’d written, or thought of writing, a book. A friend switched me over (I told you, not techno savy) when I was having issues with Blogger. So far, haven’t had those issues with WordPress. Hope you like it here. 🙂
